Abstract

Introduction: medicine is located at the confluence of several sciences, rather than a science per se. The current concern about the future of clinical practice in the face of technological advances and the poor evaluation of patients about the assistance offered to them reinforce the need for human sciences skills in health care. With literature, stories, as a structuring element of societies, effective medical practice will require the physician to have a narrative competence based on the adoption of textual analysis of the discourse of the one being cared for. Objective: the objective of this study, then, is to identify literature in medical education as a tool for better care. Methodology: this is exploratory bibliographic research using secondary sources such as current reading books, reference books, journal articles and study works. Results: It was identified that clinical and educational mechanisms make literature a tool for improving medical care. In addition, the importance of the physician's competence in being aware and judicious, based on the best evidence and using the most appropriate and available technological resources is highlighted.
