APNEIA OBSTRUTIVA DO SONO NA POPULAÇÃO PEDIÁTRICA
Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is defined by episodes of total or partial upper airway obstruction during sleep, which can cause abnormalities in gas exchange and sleep quality. Late diagnosis and inadequate or absent treatment are associated with behavioral and learning problems. In more severe cases, obstructive sleep apnea may be causing growth impairment and cardiovascular complications. The surgical treatment of the first choice for children with OSAHOS is adenotonsillectomy (AA). However, the treatment may fail in more severe cases or the presence of associated comorbidities. Therefore, it was expected from the literature review, the synthesis of the studies found through adequate scientific data to contribute to updating the scientific community about the knowledge on the subject. In this sense, the objective was to find in the literature conclusive studies that clarify the best way to make an early diagnosis, identify risk factors, and adequate treatment in children with OSA to avoid possible learning, behavioral, and cardiovascular consequences.
