Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a condition that affects a large portion of the world's population. The clinical signs and symptoms of IBD include abdominal pain, anemia, diarrhea, fecal urgency, nausea, chronic fatigue, weight loss, and gastrointestinal bleeding, producing vitamin deficiencies. To this end, the microbiota is altered concerning healthy individuals, with a reduction in bacteria with anti-inflammatory capacity and an increase in inflammatory bacteria, which can be a causal or synergistic factor in the perpetuation of chronic inflammation. Nevertheless, some variables must be analyzed to achieve better results, such as the selection of a potential donor, and the form, frequency, and route of administration of the stool. In this sense, this paper discusses the use of TMF, through an integrative review of the literature with a qualitative bias, bringing together the synthesis of the most relevant studies on the subject, showing how the use of fecal microbiota transplantation may be a new therapeutic option that can help in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases. In this way, it is possible to broaden the discussion on the theme, making use of the analysis of the benefits of therapy, as well as the best technique to be used.
