DISFUNÇÃO ERÉTIL EM HOMENS SUBMETIDOS A PROSTATECTOMIA RADICAL: UMA REVISÃO DA LITERATURA
Abstract
Introduction: Prostate cancer has become the second disease that most affects men in Brazil and is the second cause of cancer mortality in the world. With the advancement of medicine, diagnostic and curative methods for the disease have increased. Among the diagnostic methods, the following stand out: the level of PSA in the blood, digital rectal examination and biopsy. For curative methods, we can highlight radical prostatectomy, which is indicated for some types of cancer. Objectives: To carry out a literature review in order to assess the sexual health of men who were diagnosed with radical prostatectomy. Methodological Aspects: This is a literature review using articles published between 2014 and 2021, in Portuguese and English, which are indexed in the PubMed Central ® (PMC) and ScientificElectronic Library Online (SciELO) databases. The research was carried out from September of July 2021 to the month of 2021 and the health science descriptors (DeCS) used were: prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, radial prostatectomy, diagnosis and treatment. Results: At the end of this research, it was elucidated how important the follow-up of men after undergoing radical prostatectomy is, so that it can reduce the problem of erectile dysfunction and, therefore, improve the quality of sexual life.
