Abstract

Abstract: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is conceptualized as any degree of glucose intolerance that is first reported during pregnancy. This conceptualization is determined regardless of the use of insulin or whether the condition remains after delivery and does not eliminate the possibility of the intolerance having started earlier in pregnancy. Objective: To analyze the causes of GDM and identify the reasons that trigger this problem in pregnant women, as well as the methods of treatment and the effects on the fetus, to prevent and avoid death.  Method: The method used is a bibliographic research of a qualitative nature, since it was developed based on already elaborated material, constructed mainly from books and scientific articles. As inclusion criteria, articles developed in the last five years and not repetitive. As exclusion criteria, duplicate or outdated articles to the current health panorama. Final considerations: We aim to bring a reflection and a certain clinical look from the health team and from pregnant women themselves to problems faced during pregnancy and the importance of care and treatment for their health and for the health of the fetus. To highlight the importance of the control of GDM during pregnancy and the screening after this gestational period to verify the permanence of diabetes or not.
