ESTUDO REVISIONAL SOBRE A MIELITE TRANSVERSA AGUDA NO BRASIL
Abstract
Introduction: Acute transverse myelitis (ATM) is characterized as an acute or subacute demyelinating disease that can affect all genders and age groups. ATM has several etiologies. After excluding lesions due to infections, radiation, connective tissue comorbidities, paraneoplastic changes, infarction, and sarcoidosis, it should be considered an idiopathic disease. As far as Brazil is concerned, this study seeks to identify the main causes. Objective: To perform an epidemiological overview of Acute Myelitis in Brazil through books, journals, and articles, identifying the main causes and the most effective forms of treatment. Method: Integrative review using the Scielo, Lilacs, Pub-Med, Science Direct, and Virtual Health Library databases, as well as government agencies that have specific data at the Brazilian level. As inclusion criteria, studies from the last five years are being sought. As exclusion criteria, duplicate, or repetitive articles, as well as, those endowed with information beyond the national sphere. Results: Given the above, there is a certain concrete perception about the many failures in the existing treatments for ATM, in which it is necessary to search for increasingly specific therapies, based on the immunological and histopathological factors of the disease.
