Knowledge of tolerance and the ability of various species and races as a form of technical support to a particular animal exploration is necessary, as well as studying the introduction of new races in one region or the guid of a breeding program, searching develop genotypes more suited to a more specific environmental condition. Therefore, the purpose of this review was to evaluate, through research papers found in the current literature, the influence of environment on animal production in the semiarid region of Northeast. It was observed that even in trials that do not consider the performance of animals, we found that sheep and cattle breeds native and adapted tested show a high degree adaptation to semiarid environment and thus being able to perform their various productive skills successfully. However, more research should be undertaken to evaluate the production itself, from animals of different species under the conditions of the region. Besides the search for alternatives to achieve the highest levels of animal production, either by finding the best form of introduction of exotic breeds, or by searching the possibility of bringing more comfort to the animals in their various stages of production.
