Abstract

The main objective of this work was to evaluate the attractive effect of the feed produced from the semi-solid fermentation of sorghum bran (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) for bees of the species Melipona subnitida (Jandaira). The tests were carried out in the Quichaba community, in the Xavier apiary, Mossoró-RN, where the bees were subjected to independent tests, not interfering with each other. For the attractiveness of the bees, the tests were carried out in a randomized experimental design with 10 treatments in triplicate, being the aromas: tutti-frutti, fennel, passion fruit, coffee, vanilla, strawberry, amarula, honey, lemon and control (without aroma), the experiment was repeated for three consecutive days, always starting at 8:00 am. The tests followed the same parameters and repetitions used, however it was observed that for the Jandaíra bees, the amarula essence showed a greater attractiveness being succeeded by the witness and vanilla, respectively. Being succeeded by vanilla and lemon, which did not differ statistically from each other. The bees showed significant variance in relation to the time of the experiment, demonstrating that these insects have a kind of "memory" of the place of food, which can be caused by hormonal factors.
