Abstract

Plants that are under attack by pathological agents can release volatiles from attracting natural enemies, repelling or attracting predators from such enemies. Triozoida limbata L. (Hemiptera: Triozidae) is an unsettling pest in guava (Psidium guajava L. 1753), a small tree of Myrtaceae family, whose annual production in Brazil reaches 460.5t, and in which the presence of psyllid represents a significant negative influence on fruit production. Resembling other pests, the psyllid has some natural enemies that increase the efficiency of biological control in commercial crops. The study of the tritrophic relationship (plant x T. limbata x natural enemies) can identify mechanisms for manipulation and / or use of practices related to insect-pest relationship management. In order to identify predators and parasitoids of T. limbata in guava crops, we have visited farms that grow the fruit in the Vale do Jaguaribe region, Ceará. Photographies were taken and specimens were collected from both the pest and natural enemies. The existence of two predatory species, namely, red ladybird (Cycloneda sanguinea L. - Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) and chrysopid (Ceraeochrysa sp. - Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) were observed. With the identification of these predators it was possible the behavioral, physiological and chemical study of these natural enemies to elaborate methodologies focused on the integrated management of T. limbata with guava.
