Promoción de la sostenibilidad agrícola: Impacto en la productividad del arroz en la Irrigación de Bajo Limpopo, Gaza, Mozambique

La promoción agrícola busca fortalecer la agricultura familiar y fomentar el desarrollo socioeconómico en comunidades rurales vulnerables. En el Río Baixo Limpopo (LLR), estas iniciativas se han centrado en transformar la producción de arroz, que es esencial para la subsistencia local y el desarrollo socioeconómico. Sin embargo, el impacto de estas acciones en la eficiencia productiva y la sostenibilidad del sector familiar sigue siendo poco explorado. Este estudio evaluó el impacto de la promoción agrícola en la productividad del arroz en el sector familiar de la zona irrigada de RBL. Se obtuvieron datos de una muestra representativa de 106 productores familiares de arroz, considerando perfiles demográficos y prácticas agrícolas diversificadas. Se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas para analizar indicadores como ingresos económicos, creación de empleo, productividad agrícola y prácticas de cultivo. Los resultados indicaron una mejora significativa en la eficiencia productiva y la generación de ingresos de las familias. Los rendimientos de arroz aumentaron de 2 a 6 toneladas por hectárea entre 2016/2017 y 2020/2021. El número de trabajadores también aumentó, de 17 trabajadores temporales por hectárea en 2016/2017 a 252 trabajadores temporales y 7 trabajadores permanentes en 2020/2021. Los ingresos económicos aumentaron significativamente, de 65,900.00 MZN (1,032.21 USD) a 91,440.00 MZN (1,432.25 USD) en el mismo período. Los resultados muestran el potencial de las estrategias de promoción agrícola para transformar la agricultura familiar, promover el desarrollo sostenible y mejorar las condiciones de vida de los pequeños agricultores. Se recomienda que estas prácticas sean ampliadas y que se implementen políticas públicas para garantizar su sostenibilidad a largo plazo.
