Abstract

Genetically modified foods (GMOs) were a way out to increase food production, improve nutritional composition and decrease damage by fighting pests, strengthening the food to be planted and increasing its resistance, however, studies show that these foods in consumption can cause the human body to have cancer allergies. The work was developed through bibliographic research, in scientific articles published in periodicals, electronic journals and books together with the current legislation on the labeling of transgenic foods in Brazil, Decree 4680/03, Ordinance nº 2658/03, Normative Instruction nº 1/04 and Law 14274/10. Of the evaluated products that contained soy, cotton and corn in their composition, 100% (n = 156), presented the transgenic symbol, followed by the relevant expressions that would be "(product name) transgenic" (n = 15), "contains (name of the ingredient or ingredients) transgenic" (n=75) and" product produced from (product name) transgenic "(n = 64) and Labels with the expression in disagreement with the legislation (n = 02 ). The industry's adherence to the labeling of transgenic foods was satisfactory for this analysis, but there is still a need for further monitoring on the veracity of information on products that use soy, cotton, corn etc. and do not have the transgenic symbol on their labels. The inspection must be present both by carrying out analyzes on these foods and in the convergence of this information on the labeling. And the consumer's right to information guaranteed by the CDC (Consumer Protection Code) must be maintained.
