Abstract

During 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 a pandemic disease, in other words, alarming for all regions of the globe. As a consequence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, several systemic effects were observed, but mainly kidney damage in patients who presented severe conditions. The objective of this literature review is to know the pathophysiology of Covid-19 resulting in Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), in order to seek several practical studies in english and portuguese that answer to this objective. Thus, it is notable that the relationship of this pathology with AKI includes aggression from the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) present in the kidneys, that is, directly affecting the organ and the effects of the cytokine cascade in the body resulting, directly or indirect, on renal involvement and the clinical symptoms of the sick patient. Finally, the injury of this organ is performed from the inflammatory response and by interference with the enzyme present at the site.
