Nursing assistance in breastfeeding for newborns assisted in Intensive Care

Breastfeeding is the process by which the infant receives milk from its mother and according to the World Health Organization in agreement with the Ministry of Health, this should occur exclusively until the first six months of life. In addition, the "Neonatal Intensive Care Units" were created and adapted with the aim of offering assistance to premature newborns and other needs related to this public. In this way, it is necessary to know what the current literature presents about the factors that can directly influence the effectiveness of breastfeeding within the Intensive Care Units of Brazil and how public health initiatives, aimed at this, influenced the rates related to the maternal and newborn health. The present study is an integrative, retrospective and secondary review, through the guiding question "How does nursing care in breastfeeding occur for newborns assisted in intensive care?", using descriptors registered in the "Descriptors in Sciences of Health" and submitted in various official databases. Thus, emphasizing the importance of nursing care during the breastfeeding process in the conditions of the child hospitalized in Neonatal Intensive Care Units, highlighting the numerous benefits for the binomial mother and child.
