Abstract

In the face of the pandemic caused by the worldwide spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, vaccination emerged as the best method capable of protecting people from COVID-19. In this context, the importance of population acceptance of the vaccine to achieve mass immunization stands out. Recognizing the importance of health professionals in forming opinions on this topic, the present study aimed to analyze the knowledge and perceptions of students on health courses at Centro Universitário Christus (Ceará) regarding vaccination against COVID-19 using an electronic questionnaire. In total, 361 students were included in the study. The majority of the sample (52.1%) received only 3 doses of the vaccine. Most of the group that received 4 doses (97.3%) believed that vaccination is the best way to avoid complications from the disease. Participating in classes on this topic during undergraduate studies proved to be relevant both for the knowledge that vaccination does not prevent all cases of the disease and for choosing more reliable sources of information on the subject. Factors that motivated vaccination against COVID-19 were also identified, as well as justifications for refusing a dose. These results confirm the importance of addressing the COVID-19 disease during the learning process in the university environment.
