Residency in Multiprofessional Health is defined as a specialization modality aimed at on-the-job training, facilitating the application of theoretical knowledge into practice. Its operation relies crucially on the involvement of preceptors, who operate at the interface between education and service, organizing the workflow and identifying learning weaknesses. Aimed at enhancing this learning process, the Resident-Centered Teaching emerges, placing resident professionals at the core of instruction and establishing that preceptors will act solely as mediators. Therefore, this article presents a descriptive study, a narrative of experience, based on the experience of dental preceptorship within the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Family Health (PRMSF), adopting a resident-centered approach. During their activities, preceptors guided residents not only in technical aspects but also in personal and professional development to address community challenges. The mediation by preceptors encouraged residents to achieve autonomy and promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, the Portfolio, a formative process used, allowed reflection on the trajectory within the Program based on reflective records, their experiences in the practice setting, and self-assessment. Based on the preceptors' experience, the new teaching model implemented in preceptorship management created space to value each resident professional's individual experiences, making preceptors professional facilitators in the knowledge construction process, contributing to the training of qualified professionals to work within the Unified Health System (SUS).
