This article aims to analyze the scientific production related to the principle of autonomy in nursing practice. The research seeks to identify emerging patterns, gaps, and areas that require further investigation within this theme. Through a bibliometric review of the literature, the study aims to map existing contributions, highlighting the volume of publications, the main topics addressed, the most influential authors, and detecting the historical evolution and future trends of research on the principle of autonomy. As a methodology, a quantitative approach is used, based on bibliometric tools to analyze relevant health databases. The results indicate that, although there is a growing scientific output on the topic, significant gaps still exist in certain contexts and countries, particularly concerning the practical application of this principle in vulnerable situations and critical care. The conclusion points to the need for deeper investigations into the principle of autonomy in nursing to promote the valuing of this bioethical principle and, thus, contribute to the strengthening and improvement of the profession.
