Abstract

The disorder accumulation, hoarding or Noah's Syndrome disorder is a multifactorial and interdisciplinary problem in Public Health and concerns the accumulation of animals, where the affected individual is unable to customize them and does not perceive the behavioral risks for their own your family, neighbors and animals. Thus, there is a need to know the profile of these accumulators, as well as how they house, feed and promote veterinary care for these animals, also verifying their knowledge of zoonoses and the animal's relationship with the environment. Thus, the present work aimed to draw of profile of animal accumulators in the city of São Luís - MA, through the application of a questionnaire on the population's knowledge about zoonoses, abuse, environmental risks, notions about food management and veterinary medical care for animals and socioeconomic profile of people who the accumulation of animals disorder. It is concluded that the level of education (people without higher education) is correlated with the number of animals accumulated (above 20) (P <0.001). The level of education does not influence people's knowledge about zoonoses (P = 0.3292). However, the higher-level variable influenced the habits of taking the animals to the veterinarian (P = 0.002), as well as their immunization (P = 0.0009). Multiprofessional work is needed to improve the quality of life of humans and animals.
