University extension on sexual violence and its consequences: Experience report

Abstract

University extension actions are fundamental tools for the dissemination of knowledge beyond the academic environment, making citizens increasingly aware of their rights and duties, as well as participating in the promotion of their own and community well-being. Thus, the present study aimed to report the experience of the university extension project entitled "Sexual Violence: guidelines on the subject and its consequences", carried out by medical students from the University of the State of Pará (UEPA), Marabá campus, in partnership with the Federal Institute of Pará (IFPA). The project was carried out between the 25th and 29th of july 2022, at IFPA, in Marabá - PA, with the participation of 20 students from Licentiate in Letters course at that institution. Multimedia presentations, conversation circles and the application of questionnaires were used at the beginning and at the end of the project to elucidate concepts relevant and critical reflection about sexual violence, legal implications and operational aspects, such as the importance of filling out the form. of compulsory notification. At the end of the program, it was possible to observe that this experience was significant for those involved, since it provided the assimilation of knowledge in a practical and accessible way, making them able to spread such notions in their social environment. Thus, it is understood that the proposed activities fulfilled their function of socializing scientific knowledge and it is expected that they have contributed to the recognition of the magnitude of sexual violence and its consequences.
