A bibliographical and critical analysis of the problematization of the dispensation of herbal medicines

Abstract

The use of herbal medicines has gained prominence as an alternative and complementary approach to health, arousing interest from both the population and health professionals. In this context, drugstores have assumed an important role in the dispensing of these products, providing easy access to consumers. The objective of this article is to conduct a literature review on the dispensing of herbal medicines in drugstores, addressing legal, technical and practical aspects. The literature review was conducted through research in electronic databases, including scientific articles, theses, dissertations and normative documents related to the subject. Studies were selected that addressed the current legislation, the characteristics of herbal medicines, the role of the pharmacist in dispensing, drug interaction and the safety of the use of these products. The results of the review revealed that the dispensing of herbal medicines in drugstores requires compliance with specific standards and regulations. It is necessary that drugstores are prepared to store herbal medicines properly, ensuring the quality and integrity of the products. With regard to safety of use, studies were identified that reported the occurrence of adverse reactions related to the consumption of herbal medicines, highlighting the importance of monitoring and reporting these events. Drug interaction is also a relevant aspect, since some medicinal plants can potentiate or inhibit the action of conventional drugs.
