Availability for Interprofessional Education in students at a university in the highlands of Santa Catarina

Interprofessional Education (IPE) aims to bring different professionals together to learn from and about other professions, with the aim of improving health services. The availability of students to learn together is directly reflected in their interprofessional performance. This study evaluated the availability for Interprofessional Education among students in the health area, at a university in the northern plateau of Santa Catarina, seeking to identify differences between participants and non-participants of the Education Program for Work for Health, through the application of the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS). It was an exploratory and descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Data were analyzed using Excel software version 365, for descriptive statistics, and GraphPad Prism version 5.0, and were compared using the ANOVA test. 178 students participated in this research in step 1 and 88 in step 2. For the factor scores, a statistical difference was identified between PET and non-PET, noting that, for RIPLS in step 3, factors 1 and 3 were higher in the group PET and factor 2 were higher in the non-PET group, demonstrating that both groups showed high availability for Factor 1 and 3, and a certain weakness regarding Factor 2. The study reflected availability for collaborative work in both groups, and greater preference for petians. It has been shown that active teaching methodologies positively impact student learning and behavior. The need for future studies is highlighted, which can investigate situations that are not well elucidated as the influence of gender and stage of the course.
