Abstract

: This study aims to outline a profile of hospitalization and mortality trends in surgical groups from 2008 to 2020 in the state of Pará, generating information to contribute to the planning of strategies directed to the demands of the population of Pará and improving surgical care in the state of Pará. Cross-sectional and retrospective study. A regression model was used with data from the SUS hospital information system (SIH / SUS). In relation to hospitalization trends, the procedure 'Minor surgeries and surgeries of skin, subcutaneous tissue and mucosa' had a significant downward trend, whereas the procedures 'Endocrine gland surgery', 'Surgery of the vision apparatus', 'Surgery in Oncology' and 'Other surgeries' showed significant increasing trends, and the other procedures remained stable. Regarding the trend of surgical mortality according to the Subgroups of Surgical Procedures, the procedures of 'Surgery of the central and peripheral nervous system', 'Surgery of the musculoskeletal system', 'Surgery of the genitourinary system', 'Obstetric surgery' and 'Surgery thoracic 'had a significant increasing trend, while the rest remained stable or decreasing. The use of the DATASUS database and the disregard of surgeries performed in private health institutions are limiting factors. Despite this, knowledge about the temporal trends of surgical procedures in the State of Pará is of great importance for defining health management strategies specific to the demands of the population of Pará, considering the doctrinal principles of SUS.
